Early Access Games Worth Checking Your PC For

WARDOGS launched today with 1-2 years of Early Access ahead of it. Here's what that usually means for system requirements, based on how past Early Access titles actually evolved.

Confirmed: WARDOGS entered Steam Early Access September 10, 2026. Baldur's Gate 3 and Palworld release-window facts are public record from their respective Steam pages.

Why Early Access changes the requirements conversation

A finished game's system requirements are mostly stable. An Early Access game's aren't, developers patch performance, add content, and sometimes raise the floor as systems get more complex. WARDOGS, live today, is the freshest example: BULKHEAD expects 1-2 years of Early Access before 1.0, during which the official Minimum and Recommended specs could shift as maps, vehicles and weapon categories expand.

Two prior examples show how differently this can go:

GameEarly Access periodWhat changed by 1.0
Baldur's Gate 3Oct 2020 – Aug 2023 (~3 years)Full campaign added post-EA, requirements grew alongside scope (Act 2 and 3 added significant content).
PalworldJan 2024 – ongoingServer and world-size improvements shipped as patches, base requirements stayed comparatively stable.
WARDOGSSep 2026 – expected 2027/2028Too early to say, BULKHEAD has flagged vehicles (including fighter jets) and expanded maps as planned additions.

The pattern: a game that adds scope (new zones, more simultaneous players, physics-heavy systems) tends to raise requirements over its Early Access life. A game that mostly polishes what's already there tends not to.

What to actually do before buying an Early Access game

  • Check the Minimum tier, not just Recommended. Early Access pricing is usually lower than 1.0, but the requirements aren't discounted. Run the WARDOGS checker or any of our other tools before buying, not after.
  • Expect the floor to rise, not fall. We're not aware of a major Early Access title that lowered its official Minimum spec on the way to 1.0. Budget for that when deciding if your current setup is "good enough for now."
  • Read the "why Early Access" FAQ on the store page. BULKHEAD's own answer for WARDOGS explicitly names planned additions (fighter jets, expanded weapon categories) that will add rendering and simulation load later.
