This isn't new for Rockstar
| Title | Delay history |
|---|---|
| GTA V | Announced for Spring 2013, delayed once to September 17, 2013 |
| RDR2 | Announced for Fall 2017, delayed twice, eventually launching October 26, 2018 |
| GTA 6 | Announced implicitly for Fall 2025, delayed twice, now confirmed for November 19, 2026 |
RDR2's two delays are the closer precedent, both it and GTA 6 slipped by roughly a year total from the earliest expected window. In both cases, the extra time tracked with a game that reviewed exceptionally well on release, for whatever that pattern is worth.
What two delays tell us
Two delays in under two years is a lot even by AAA standards, but it's consistent with Rockstar's own history. GTA V and RDR2 both slipped from their originally teased windows too. The upside for PC players: every extra month of console development is also extra time for the eventual PC port team to start in parallel, which is roughly what happened with RDR2, whose PC version followed console by about 12 months. There's no confirmation this is happening for GTA 6, but it's a reasonable read of the pattern. See our full PC vs console breakdown.
What to watch for next
- A third trailer or gameplay deep-dive, typically timed a few months ahead of a console launch.
- Official PC system requirements, historically one of the later announcements, often close to the PC release date itself rather than the console date.
- Storefront listings (Steam, Epic, Rockstar Games Launcher) appearing before any formal PC announcement. See our where-to-buy guide.
