GTA 6: Ray Tracing, DLSS & FSR

No PC specs exist yet, so no official upscaling or ray tracing support has been confirmed either. Here's what's likely, based on the console version and where the industry has landed by 2026.

Still unofficial: Rockstar hasn't detailed GTA 6's graphics tech stack for any platform in depth. This page will be rewritten the moment they do.

What the console version tells us

Trailer footage has shown dense volumetric lighting, reflective wet surfaces, and detailed global illumination, all consistent with some form of hardware-accelerated or software-based ray tracing running on PS5/Series X, similar to how Rockstar's RAGE engine handled RDR2's lighting without full ray tracing. Whether that's true hardware ray tracing or a baked/approximated equivalent (like Lumen in Unreal Engine 5) hasn't been confirmed.

What this means for your GPU choice

If ray tracing and DLSS land as expected, the practical effect is that an NVIDIA RTX 40- or 50-series card gets you more visual headroom per dollar than a same-tier AMD card, purely because DLSS upscaling quality has consistently outperformed FSR in side-by-side comparisons through 2025–2026. That's not a brand loyalty statement, it's the current state of upscaling tech. AMD's RX 9000-series FSR 4 has closed much of that gap, but DLSS still edges ahead in image stability at lower internal resolutions.

Practically: if ray tracing is a priority for you, weight your GPU upgrade toward RTX 4070 Ti / 4080-class cards or newer, which have dedicated RT cores fast enough to run ray tracing without needing frame generation to stay playable.

RTX 40/50-series GPU

Best current bet if ray tracing and DLSS matter to you, dedicated RT cores plus the most mature upscaler on the market.

RX 9000-series GPU

Strong rasterization performance and FSR 4, at a lower price point than the equivalent NVIDIA tier, the value pick if RT is a nice-to-have.
